Ashgabat, 18-20 December 2018: The European Union funded Project “Support to Further Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development in Turkmenistan – SARD III” jointly with the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Economy of Turkmenistan has organized a 3-day seminar on plant protection and effective methodologies of pest management. The seminar was held within the framework of the SARD III Project.
The target group of the seminar consisted of 24 representatives of the Plant Protection Service and the State Quarantine Service of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Economy of Turkmenistan as well as the representatives of the agricultural enterprises – members of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan from all velayats of the country.
During the seminar, the international expert entomologist of the Project, Mr. Karel Ernst Neering, who facilitated the training, shared with his knowledge about modern plant protection and pest management methods and techniques. Participants were familiarized with the existing biological control options of bugs and pests, in particular, the control of locust, cotton and tomato bugs in the field crop production, and options for production, testing and release of bio-control agents.
At the end of the seminar, the participants were introduced to the 3D Project capturing the high-quality natural-color 3D models of insects for species discovery and diagnostics.
In the framework of his visit to Turkmenistan, Mr. Neering has also visited the laboratory of the State Quarantine Service under the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Economy of Turkmenistan, as well as a local strawberry producing enterprise, where he had a chance to share with his knowledge on the best management practices for pest control.
