August 27-28, 2020, Ashgabat, Turkmenistan: the European Union funded Project “Support to Further Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development in Turkmenistan – SARD III” organized a two-day workshop on meat handling and processing for specialists and experts of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan and State Veterinary Service of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment Protection of Turkmenistan. The workshop was held via video conferencing format at the capital’s Yyldyz Hotel, where SARDIII international short-term experts Mr. Miles MacPherson and Mr. Dave Lang presented international best practices and standards of meat slaughtering in accordance with international safety and sanitary norms and requirements.
The workshop engaged specialists involved in policymaking and monitoring of meat handling processes from raw materials and ingredients to manufacturing procedures and finished products. The SARD III international experts discussed with the participants transportation and handling of the animal from farm to a place of slaughter, slaughtering processes, safe and hygienic handling of carcasses.
On the second day of the seminar, participants were demonstrated the meat cutting processes. At the end of the training session, all seminar participants received Antimicrobial Resistance Control posters and Humane Slaughter Association Manuals.
